LANTERN is an engineered Fiber-based Ethernet business connectivity solution offered by SystemMetrics Corporation. The uniqueness of SystemMetrics LANTERN service is the integration of multiple carriers. This multi-carrier internetworking allows businesses greater coverage and redundancy reducing single carrier access limitations. For example, one carrier may not be able to reach a location where the other carrier can. The customer can now connect both locations using two different carriers without compatibility or performance issues.
LANTERN’s performance, reliability, and engineering flexibility is unrivaled by any connectivity solution in its class. LANTERN offers businesses full duplex 10, 100, and Gigabit speeds with choice of Fiber or Category 5 handoff. These circuits are fully 802.1q (VLAN Trunk) and 802.1p (QoS) capable. Because LANTERN is Ethernet, no router or special network equipment is necessary to interface the circuit.
LANTERN allows businesses additional options not available with traditional carrier and ISP offerings. Businesses can use LANTERN to aggregate or connect to other technologies such as DSL, Frame Relay, ATM, and SONET, supporting Internet or WAN operations. This cross compatibility with other technologies is virtually non-existent with traditional carrier and ISP offerings.
LANTERN is engineered and proven to support the most demanding businsess applications. SystemMetrics’ engineers have qualified LANTERN for use in a number of solutions such as LAN extension, Virtual Private Network (VPN), VoIP, Data Backup, WAN aggregation, Internet access, and Point of Sale (POS) applications. LANTERN was also engineered to support prioritization of one or more of these solutions over a single circuit.
The LANTERN Ethernet circuits use dedicated fiber from the customer premises to the SystemMetrics switching nodes. These circuits demonstrate the highest caliber of service with less than 1ms latency from customer premises to SystemMetrics Point-of-Presence (POP).

- Multipoint connectivity is provided by Ethernet, thus alleviating the need to manage multiple point-to-point connections on the customer equipment
